Due to Covid 19, we will be driving in separate vehicles to the river to maintain social distancing. A shore lunch meal of fried lake perch, hushpuppies, and french fries will now be served. Since this meal is cooked and served outdoors, social distancing protocols can be followed.

Tolliver's Guide Service now carries the special use permit for the Jefferson National Forest. This permit makes us the only Boone based outfitter with legal access to these waters for guide trips.

Tolliver’s Guide Service is a Catch and Release only operation.

We believe in protecting the environment and allowing other sportsmen to enjoy the natural resources available to us in the high country. In the words of the great angler Lee Wulff: “The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?”

Operating independently out of the Boone, North Carolina region, Tolliver’s Guide Service offers guided fly fishing trips to high country veteran explorers and newbie vacationers alike. Book trips in either Virginia, Tennessee, or North Carolina, and receive waders and fly rods, free of charge with every experience. Newcomers will love the affordable opportunities to enjoy the sport, and experienced anglers will learn more about the area than they knew before.

Your guide, former park ranger Jesse Tolliver, comes with 20 years of experience fishing the high country streams of Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. He’s the hoste of a tv show called “Jesse Tolliver’s on The Fly”. It can be found on Carolina Outdoor Adventures TV. He has three years of guiding experience, including two at an Orvis endorsed lodge in Virginia. In addition to knowledge, he is fully licensed and insured, so you have nothing to worry about when planning your trip.

I only offer wade trips, but all boots and waders are provided to you free of charge.

I can take a maximum of three clients per day. I am the only outfitter in Boone that is gracious enough to allow this large number of clients per guide on a day trip. If you ask to add more, I will politely decline service to your party. Thanks for understanding.

Is there a deposit required?

Tolliver's Guide Service requires a 50% non-refundable deposit to book a guide trip, just like every other outfitter in the region. The full value is non refundable within 7 days of the guide trip. We go fishing rain or shine, unless if the guide deems weather or river conditions as unsafe. In the event of dangerous conditions, the trip will be rescheduled on a future date.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept paypal or cash. Tolliver’s Guide Service can now process credit card payments through Square.
